A ferocious storm cell pummeled the Denver metro area late Thursday night May 30th, unleashing a barrage of destructive hail and electrifying lightning. The storm, which first targeted northern suburbs like Boulder and Broomfield, gradually crept south-southeast, bringing its fury to Thornton, Commerce City, and eventually Denver and Aurora.
As the storm intensified, residents were warned of golf ball-sized hail and even larger stones, reaching tennis and baseball proportions in some areas. The Denver International Airport was not spared, with cameras capturing the intense light show as the storm passed overhead.
The destructive hail caused significant damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure. In Commerce City, flooding forced the closure of major roads, leaving drivers stranded and disrupting traffic.
Forecasters warned of continued severe weather risks throughout the night, with additional thunderstorms expected to bring more hail and strong winds to the region.
