Roof leaks are a sure sign that something is wrong with your roof – if you see a pond on your attic floor a damp patch on your ceiling or, even worse, water is dripping from your ceiling, it is time to start looking for the source of the water. While you are at it, be prepared that not all roof leaks come from an obvious source – here are some tips from outstanding Parker roofing companies that know how to spot the leak:
- Check your attic floor – go to your attic while it is raining or right after the rain has stopped and look for wet patches on the attic floor. The source of the leak is probably right above the damp spot on the attic floor or slightly higher on the roof surface;
- Check the roof from the attic – another way to find the source of the leak is to look up at the roof standing on the attic floor. If the leak is caused by a puncture or a crack that is large enough or by a displaced component, you will see the sky through the hole;
- Check problem areas – roof leaks can also develop in areas where the continuity of the roof is broken, such as in the areas covered in flashing, around dormers, skylights, chimneys or in roof valleys. Check these areas for damage, too.
